Executive Director Search

Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, the NIST Child Care Center is a non-profit program that serves children of employees affiliated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology as well as children of other federal employees. The Center enrolls approximately 135 children infant through school age, and has a staff of 35 full time and part time teachers housed in a new, rent free facility. The mission of the Center is to encourage and promote the total social, physical, emotional, and academic development of each child in a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment. The Board of Directors provides oversight of policies and strategic planning. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced early care and education professional; a leader with outstanding interpersonal, communication, decision-making and administrative skills.

Key Executive Director responsibilities include:

• Develop and foster strategic and operational plans and associated policies

• Provide vision, leadership, mentoring and supervision to entire staff

• Supervise Education Director, Assistant Director and other administrative staff

• Manage fiscal operations; develop and oversee the budget

• Maintain strong relationships with families

• Work towards obtaining NAEYC accreditation

• Communicate and report to the Child Care Association Board of Directors

Key qualifications:

• Master’s degree in early childhood education or a related field

• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience directing an early care and education program

• Administrative skills and experience; computer proficiency

• Experience with NAEYC accreditation preferred
